GSM modems have become widespread in the era of the popularity of mobile Internet. Now almost everyone has a wired network at home, many already have a fiber-optic channel, and GSM/GPRS modems are used by most only as part of smartphones. But the popularity of modules in microelectronics has not decreased at all!
Many developments require periodic data transfer to the server. If the device is within Wi-Fi coverage, it is easier to use the popular EPS8266 modules. But what if the nearest router is hundreds of kilometers away, only 2G is available, and you need to send data?
Then cellular modems are used. The same SIM800L – one of the most popular modems, characterized by low power consumption – is used in a large number of various modules with varying degrees of stuffing with peripherals. But the developers went further and presented a module based on SIM800l, having the ESP-01 form factor!
ESP-800L Core board allows you to create one printed circuit board for use in different conditions. Insert ESP-01 — catch Wi-Fi and work through it. Insert SIM800L — and you are already in the mobile network!
The modem supports operation in most operating ranges in Russia and the CIS countries, so there will be no problems with the reliability of reception. The board has both an antenna in the form of a track and an XCOM connector for connecting an external antenna.
